Poster Inspirations

Above is a spider diagram that I have constructed which includes a variety of posters that Jade, Ruby, Sadie and I have analysed to try and gain some knowledge on what things need to be added to a poster to advertise the film and catch it in the best possible light.
The 5 posters, which are for a variety of thriller films; ranging from psychological to horror, have guided us in the direction on what to make sure the poster includes if we want to gain a mass audience.
We have come to a conclusion as a group and understand that the main features of a poster are the title, date of release and the image that is used to show the protagonist or antagonist in the film.
For example, the majority of the poster for ‘Orphan’ is taken up by the image of the main character in the film. This intrigues the audience as the sub title ‘There’s something wrong with Esther’ gives us the information that the girl in the picture is called Esther and that there must be a problem involving her.
The other posters are a range of different films but all have the same layout of the image and title either underneath or above it. The title is usually done in a bigger font and either in red or black to represent danger or darkness.
The release date or most often, the ‘coming soon’ banner is commonly at the bottom of the poster where people look out for it most. It is often in the same font as the title, sometimes smaller but rarely bigger as the title is the most important feature.
