As you can see Maslow's hierarchy of needs is relevant to advertisers and institutions. The upper levels are about self esteem and gaining respect from others. This can be linked to the idea that consuming particular media texts fulfils self-esteem how buying certain products does.
For example, Maslow is suggesting that if you buy a new pair of shoes of the right brand shown to you in the media. For instance, Dr Marten’s, then you will feel better about yourself because you have the respect of other people, as you are wearing known fashionable shoes.
In terms of our thriller, we want to create a thriller that fulfils our sense of pride and self-esteem and be respected by our audience as a convincing opening to a thriller and to have their respect where they use (word of mouth) to promote our thriller.
