Maslow's hierarchy of needs

As you can see Maslow's hierarchy of needs is relevant to advertisers and institutions. The upper levels are about self esteem and gaining respect from others. This can be linked to the idea that consuming particular media texts fulfils self-esteem how buying certain products does.
For example, Maslow is suggesting that if you buy a new pair of shoes of the right brand shown to you in the media. For instance, Dr Marten’s, then you will feel better about yourself because you have the respect of other people, as you are wearing known fashionable shoes.
In terms of our thriller, we want to create a thriller that fulfils our sense of pride and self-esteem and be respected by our audience as a convincing opening to a thriller and to have their respect where they use (word of mouth) to promote our thriller.

Demographics for Target Audience

We have chosen this demographic as our target audience as we want to create a thriller which is entertaining but educational at the same time. We aim to raise awareness surrounding Trafficking as it is a crime that is rising significantly, with teenage females being the most frequent victims, hence the target audience.

Institution most suitable for the distribution of our Thriller

Universal have a long running history of distribution of Thrillers, they have supplied audiences with a large number of successful thrillers over the years and here are just some of those.

We feel that Universal are the most suitable institution for us based on the subject we are basing our Thriller on. Because of their successful distribution and established trademark they would be ideal for promoting and supplying our Thriller to a wide audience.

As our Thriller is a specialist film dealing with the heavy subject of female exploitation and sex trafficking, we will need a large institution with global reach to raise the profile of our thriller. Most people go to the cinema to be entertained, our thriller is not an entertaining thriller, it is more educational as it lifts the lid on female exploitation and does little to mask the reality of sex trafficking. Our main objective was to make audiences more aware of this massively profitable business that criminals all over the world are involved in. Universal is one of the most dominant institutions and is able to target all corners of the world - making it most capable of promoting our thriller worldwide to a mass audience, allowing us to achieve our main objective.
